Do You See What I See?

Sometimes I wish my clients could see what I can see under the magnifying lamp.

When I look at skin under the lamp I can see what you can’t see when you look in the mirror. You can see clear skin but I can see the spots that are on their way up to the surface. It’s my job to let you know how to treat & prevent these brown spots from getting darker & more noticeable. First we figure out if these “spots” are UV induced, hormonally induced, or post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation.

UV induced hyperpigmentation: meaning exposure to the sun, tanning beds, and florescent lighting.  This type of hyperpigmentation is usually evenly across the face and or body. Sometimes it may even look like little freckles.

Hormonally induced hyperpigmentation aka Melasma: Is a fluctuation in hormones. There are a lot of things that can cause this fluctuation (pregnancy, birth control pills, thyroid issues, menopause and or hormone replacement).

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: This can occur after acne has started its healing process, pigmentation will take longer to go away especially if there has been PICKING or you have induced pressure or trauma to the skin.

How to get rid of brown spots

It all comes down to how aware you are of the sun and what you are doing to protect yourself from exposure. Get in the habit of always having your sunscreen, the sun is no joke and your skin is showing you.

Exfoliate – you should only be exfoliating 1-3 times a week to get rid of the top layer of dead skin cells.

Retinoids – Stimulate cell turnover

Lighteners: Try and incorporate Hydroquinone or Kojic acid into your daily regimen as it will help to lighten pigmentation.
Microdermabrasion: can work for faint, superficial pigmentation but it typically takes multiple treatments.

Chemical Peels: Vi Peel, PCA Peels, Cosmelan, Obagi are all great chemical peels that help in getting rid of whatever type of hyperpigmentation it is that you have.

Lasers: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your research on the type of laser you will be using
Skincare Products: To see the best results, customers are encouraged to use the cream both day and night

There are several benefits to having a consistent skincare routine
